The earliest records currently available indicate that the Armthorpe
Internal Drainage Board was active in 1929.
The Board’s District lies within the area covered by Doncaster
Metropolitan Borough Council. The main centre of population is
the town of Armthorpe which lies entirely within the District.
The Board’s district covers some 1,151 hectares and they
maintain some 6.95km of watercourse.
The Board maintained watercourses are all dependant upon gravity
flow and all eventually discharge into watercourses which are
currently the responsibility of the Environment Agency. The River
Torne being the most important of these.
